Dr. Yang Weidong specializes in electric power market reform and legal and policy research & consulting in the energy and electric power sector. He has participated in the drafting and demonstration of several key laws, including the Nuclear Safety Law, Energy Law, Electric Power Law, and Atomic Energy Law. He has published more than 40 academic papers in authoritative domestic and foreign legal and economic journals, and undertaken over 10 research projects commissioned by the Ministry of Education, the former State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Energy Administration and its dispatched offices, as well as central energy enterprises.
Dr. Yang Weidong has a solid theoretical foundation in international economic law, international investment law, private international law, and the settlement of international economic and investment disputes, coupled with rich practical experience in foreign-related legal affairs. He has provided legal consulting services for several foreign investors to establish foreign-invested enterprises in China, and also served as an expert consultant to the former Beijing Municipal Economic Commission, offering legal advice for the overseas investment of large and medium-sized state-owned industrial enterprises in Beijing.
Dr. Yang Weidong excels at handling complex and difficult commercial disputes. His agency opinions in certain tricky cases have been corroborated by subsequent guiding cases and gazette cases of the same type issued by the Supreme People's Court, and are consistent with the Judicial Interpretation of the General Principles of the Contract Chapter of the Civil Code issued by the Supreme People's Court. As an arbitrator at several well-known domestic arbitration institutions, Dr. Yang has heard over 320 arbitration cases involving construction projects, equity investment, sales and leases, among others, none of which have been applied for revocation or refusal of enforcement.
